Another team is announcing their squad for 2009 Formula 1 season, and this time it is Williams who made the announcement. Just a few weeks back, Ferrari made the same announcement, stating that they will keep Kimi Raikkonen – Felipe Massa duo for another two years.
Kazuki Nakajima and Nico Rosberg will be driving for Williams next year, and frankly speaking, their performances have been great so far. Rosberg even finished second at Marina Bay, and as he enters his third Formula 1 season he will be more mature. Nakajima showed consistent performances on his first Formula 1 season, and it is not hard to imagine a lot of improvements in his future career.
This also put an end to rumors saying either Nakajima or Rosberg will be transferring to another team next year. They are enjoying their stay with the Williams, and will be driving for the team for another year. Nico Hulkenberg, Williams’ test driver, will also stays with the team for another year.
“I’m glad we could maintain cooperation with our drivers for 2009,” stated Williams’ Team Principal Frank Williams, “Nico is showing his qualities as a good driver, Nakajima still has a lot to offer and he is developing fast, and Hulkenberg is supporting the team very well.”

Kimi’s performance might not have been good lately, but he booked a phenomenal record regarding fastest lap times this season. Out of fifteen races so far, Kimi made ten fastest lap records including his latest fastest lap record at the Singaporean Grand Prix last weekend. Kimi booked the remaining nine in Spain, Monaco, Canada, France, England, Hungary, Belgian, Italy, and Turk.
Kimi matched his own record, booking ten fastest lap time records in 2005. Only one other driver, Michael Schumacher, have made the same record. Schumacher did his in 2004. With three races to go, Kimi has the chance to leave Schumi behind and hold this record alone, should he manages to book another fastest lap time on the remaining three grand prix.
It is obvious why Ferrari decided to keep Kimi on their squad. He is a great driver indeed, but this year is just not his time. He had several misfortunates, including last weekend’s crash at the Singaporean Grand Prix with merely four laps to go. It would be interesting to see how the Iceman performs next three grand prix, especially with no pressure to gain the world championship title on his shoulder. Kimi’s chance of winning the title is very small at this point, and he might take this as an advantage; he has nothing to lose.

Both Renault and Fernando Alonso did a great job at the Singaporean Grand Prix, winning their first grand prix after a while. Renault see this victory as their proof of capabilities, hoping to keep Alonso in their squad. They are picking up their pace and improving their performance bit by bit. This victory will be their main bargaining aspect to keep Alonso from moving to BMW or Honda next season.
As we all know, both BMW and Honda are offering a spot for Alonso next season. They are promising better cars and great teamwork, and Alonso has not make any decision so far. With the latest victory, and Alonso’s statement that Renault will be his first priority, it is not hard to imagine Alonso staying in Renault next season.
“This (the Singaporean Grand Prix victory) showed Alonso that all team members are serious about winning,” said Renault’s Technical Director Bob Bell, “We are not here to be in between. I hope we did enough to convince Alonso to stay with Renault next season.”
Renault’s main target now is to finish fourth on the constructors championship. They are very serious about their target, and have been doing their best to improve their performances.
