Kimi’s performance might not have been good lately, but he booked a phenomenal record regarding fastest lap times this season. Out of fifteen races so far, Kimi made ten fastest lap records including his latest fastest lap record at the Singaporean Grand Prix last weekend. Kimi booked the remaining nine in Spain, Monaco, Canada, France, England, Hungary, Belgian, Italy, and Turk.

Kimi matched his own record, booking ten fastest lap time records in 2005. Only one other driver, Michael Schumacher, have made the same record. Schumacher did his in 2004. With three races to go, Kimi has the chance to leave Schumi behind and hold this record alone, should he manages to book another fastest lap time on the remaining three grand prix.

It is obvious why Ferrari decided to keep Kimi on their squad. He is a great driver indeed, but this year is just not his time. He had several misfortunates, including last weekend’s crash at the Singaporean Grand Prix with merely four laps to go. It would be interesting to see how the Iceman performs next three grand prix, especially with no pressure to gain the world championship title on his shoulder. Kimi’s chance of winning the title is very small at this point, and he might take this as an advantage; he has nothing to lose.
